Inc 5000 2009 - Fastest-Growing Private Companies
Smooth Fitness Makes the Inc. 5000 List of the Fastest-Growing Private Companies for Three Years Running
Home Fitness Retailer Continues Overall and Category-Specific Growth
King of Prussia, PA, September 21, 2009 -- Smooth Fitness, the largest online retailer of home exercise equipment, announced today that for the third consecutive year it has been included in the Inc. magazine ranking of the 5000 fastest-growing companies in the nation. Smooth Fitness comes in at number 4,762 in this year’s rankings which measures revenue growth from 2005 through 2008.
“We’re honored to achieve this recognition again,” said Bill Olson, Chief Executive Officer, Smooth Fitness. “We believe the innovations and initiatives we have planned through 2010 will help Smooth Fitness continue to grow and be ranked with some of the most prestigious companies in the country.”
The Inc. 5000, an extension of Inc. magazine’s annual Inc. 500 list, catches many businesses that are too big to grow at the pace required to make the Inc. 500, as well as a host of smaller firms. Taken as a whole, the companies on the Inc. 5000 list represent the backbone of the U.S. economy.
“The Inc. 5000 provides the most comprehensive look ever at the most important part of the economy – the entrepreneurial part,” said Inc. 5000 Project Manager Jim Melloan. “The expansion of the list has allowed us to tell the stories of larger companies, older companies, and a wealth of companies in the industries like manufacturing and construction that are underreported in the business media.”
The 2009 Inc. 5000 list measures revenue growth from 2005 through 2008. To qualify, companies have to be U.S.-based, privately held, independent – not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies – as of December 31, 2008 and have at least $600,000 in net sales in the base year. Smooth Fitness was ranked 4568 on the 2008 list.
This ranking puts Smooth Fitness among an elite group that over the years has included Microsoft, Timberland, Cold Stone Creamery, Go Daddy, Jamba Juice, Oracle and UnderArmour. Many of today’s most successful U.S. companies received their first public recognition when they appeared on the Inc. list.
